What is Christianity?
Christianity is about God reaching out his hand in friendship to mankind. Christians believe that the whole world and everything in it was created by God. God is a personal being, a living God who is three, yet one: Father, Son and Spirit, just as we human beings have body, mind and soul! (see the Trinity).

The Bible says God created people in his image, to love him. Yet every person has rebelled against God and sinned. Yet instead of turning his back on us, God became a man, Jesus, who most scholars believe was born about the year 4 BC and lived among us. He taught a message of love throughout Palestine but public opinion turned against him and he was executed as a young man.

He died because of us - the death that we should have died. He was crucified on a cross, but he rose from the dead, and now calls us to trust him, to love him and to repent of our rebellion. If we do this, then we our relationship with God becomes restored and we will live forever with God.

Many non-Christians may think that being a Christian is about belonging to a particular church or following a certain set of rule. Most Christians however would agree that at its root, being a Christian means to be in a living relationship with Jesus.

May Scripture Portion for Bible Commentary : 1 Chronicles 7 - Job 11 including the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther

In chapter 25 we are given the number and offices of the singers and musicians. As we have seen earlier, Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were the master leaders in song and music. Israel's worship insong and music was very spiritual and often prophetic. It was always Scriptural, permeated with the Words of God. In Christian worship weare to have exactly the same spiritual fiber in our musicalministry. Colossians 3:16 tells us, "Let the Word of Christ dwell inyou richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another inpsalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in yourhearts to the Lord.".

I firmly believe good music has a definite part in theGospel ministry today. I very strongly believe the preaching ofGod's Word is the most important part. However, a good music programshould do two things: It should communicate God's Word in messageand song; and it should prepare the hearts of those who arelistening for the spoken Word which is to follow. Many times Goduses a singer to break the hearts of the people and prepare them forthe message before the preacher stands before them to preach.

We often hear of people who have received Christ as Lord and Saviourthrough the musical program of the church. Many are saved throughgood Gospel music. More than that, the hearts of God's people aregreatly blessed when the music is sung in the power of the Spirit. It is just another way of presenting the Gospel. Every local churchneeds a dynamic and spiritual musical program. Nothing can be more detrimental to a church than dead, cold music. It is advantageous to every church service to have an involved congregation in its music program. Congregational singing, with power and spirit, also prepares the hearts of those in the congregation. I am a firm believer that God uses music in His work second only to preaching.
