- David assembled all the princes of Israel, the princes of the tribes, and the captains of the companies who served the king by division, and the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, and the rulers over all the substance and possessions of the king and of his sons, with the officers, and the mighty men, even all the mighty men of valor, to Jerusalem.
- Then David the king stood up on his feet, and said, "Hear me, my brothers, and my people! As for me, it was in my heart to build a house of rest for the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, and for the footstool of our God; and I had prepared for the building.
- But God said to me, 'You shall not build a house for my name, because you are a man of war, and have shed blood.'
- However Yahweh, the God of Israel, chose me out of all the house of my father to be king over Israel forever. For he has chosen Judah to be prince; and in the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he took pleasure in me to make me king over all Israel.
- Of all my sons (for Yahweh has given me many sons), he has chosen Solomon my son to sit on the throne of Yahweh's kingdom over Israel.
- He said to me, 'Solomon, your son, shall build my house and my courts; for I have chosen him to be my son, and I will be his father.
- I will establish his kingdom forever, if he continues to do my commandments and my ordinances, as at this day.'
- Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel, the assembly of Yahweh, and in the audience of our God, observe and seek out all the commandments of Yahweh your God; that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children after you forever.
- You, Solomon my son, know the God of your father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind; for Yahweh searches all hearts, and understands all the imaginations of the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will cast you off forever.
- Take heed now; for Yahweh has chosen you to build a house for the sanctuary. Be strong, and do it."
- Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch [of the temple], and of its houses, and of its treasuries, and of the upper rooms of it, and of the inner rooms of it, and of the place of the mercy seat;
- and the pattern of all that he had by the Spirit, for the courts of the house of Yahweh, and for all the surrounding rooms, for the treasuries of the house of God, and for the treasuries of the dedicated things;
- also for the divisions of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of Yahweh, and for all the vessels of service in the house of Yahweh;
- of gold by weight for the [vessels of] gold, for all vessels of every kind of service; [of silver] for all the vessels of silver by weight, for all vessels of every kind of service;
- by weight also for the lampstands of gold, and for its lamps, of gold, by weight for every lampstand and for its lamps; and for the lampstands of silver, [silver] by weight for [every] lampstand and for its lamps, according to the use of every lampstand;
- and the gold by weight for the tables of show bread, for every table; and silver for the tables of silver;
- and the forks, and the basins, and the cups, of pure gold; and for the golden bowls by weight for every bowl; and for the silver bowls by weight for every bowl;
- and for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot, [even] the cherubim, that spread out [their wings], and covered the ark of the covenant of Yahweh.
- "All this," said David, "I have been made to understand in writing from the hand of Yahweh, even all the works of this pattern."
- David said to Solomon his son, "Be strong and courageous, and do it. Don't be afraid, nor be dismayed; for Yahweh God, even my God, is with you. He will not fail you, nor forsake you, until all the work for the service of the house of Yahweh is finished.
- Behold, there are the divisions of the priests and the Levites, for all the service of the house of God. There shall be with you in all kinds of work every willing man who has skill, for any kind of service. Also the captains and all the people will be entirely at your command."

- ויקהל דויד את־כל־שרי ישראל שרי השבטים ושרי המחלקות המשרתים את־המלך ושרי האלפים ושרי המאות ושרי כל־רכוש־ומקנה למלך ולבניו עם־הסריסים והגבורים ולכל־גבור חיל אל־ירושלם׃
- ויקם דויד המלך על־רגליו ויאמר שמעוני אחי ועמי אני עם־לבבי לבנות בית מנוחה לארון ברית־יהוה ולהדם רגלי אלהינו והכינותי לבנות׃
- והאלהים אמר לי לא־תבנה בית לשמי כי איש מלחמות אתה ודמים שפכת׃
- ויבחר יהוה אלהי ישראל בי מכל בית־אבי להיות למלך על־ישראל לעולם כי ביהודה בחר לנגיד ובבית יהודה בית אבי ובבני אבי בי רצה להמליך על־כל־ישראל׃
- ומכל־בני כי רבים בנים נתן לי יהוה ויבחר בשלמה בני לשבת על־כסא מלכות יהוה על־ישראל׃
- ויאמר לי שלמה בנך הוא־יבנה ביתי וחצרותי כי־בחרתי בו לי לבן ואני אהיה־לו לאב׃
- והכינותי את־מלכותו עד־לעולם אם־יחזק לעשות מצותי ומשפטי כיום הזה׃
- ועתה לעיני כל־ישראל קהל־יהוה ובאזני אלהינו שמרו ודרשו כל־מצות יהוה אלהיכם למען תירשו את־הארץ הטובה והנחלתם לבניכם אחריכם עד־עולם׃ ף
- ואתה שלמה־בני דע את־אלהי אביך ועבדהו בלב שלם ובנפש חפצה כי כל־לבבות דורש יהוה וכל־יצר מחשבות מבין אם־תדרשנו ימצא לך ואם־תעזבנו יזניחך לעד׃
- ראה עתה כי־יהוה בחר בך לבנות־בית למקדש חזק ועשה׃ ף
- ויתן דויד לשלמה בנו את־תבנית האולם ואת־בתיו וגנזכיו ועליתיו וחדריו הפנימים ובית הכפרת׃
- ותבנית כל אשר היה ברוח עמו לחצרות בית־יהוה ולכל־הלשכות סביב לאצרות בית האלהים ולאצרות הקדשים׃
- ולמחלקות הכהנים והלוים ולכל־מלאכת עבודת בית־יהוה ולכל־כלי עבודת בית־יהוה׃
- לזהב במשקל לזהב לכל־כלי עבודה ועבודה לכל כלי הכסף במשקל לכל־כלי עבודה ועבודה׃
- ומשקל למנרות הזהב ונרתיהם זהב במשקל־מנורה ומנורה ונרתיה ולמנרות הכסף במשקל למנורה ונרתיה כעבודת מנורה ומנורה׃

- Convocavit igitur David omnes principes Israël, duces tribuum, et præpositos turmarum, qui ministrabant regi : tribunos quoque et centuriones, et qui præerant substantiæ et possessionibus regis, filiosque suos cum eunuchis, et potentes, et robustissimos quosque in exercitu Jerusalem.
- Cumque surrexisset rex, et stetisset, ait : Audite me, fratres mei et populus meus : cogitavi ut ædificarem domum, in qua requiesceret arca fœderis Domini, et scabellum pedum Dei nostri : et ad ædificandum, omnia præparavi.
- Deus autem dixit mihi : Non ædificabis domum nomini meo, eo quod sis vir bellator, et sanguinem fuderis.
- Sed elegit Dominus Deus Israël me de universa domo patris mei, ut essem rex super Israël in sempiternum : de Juda enim elegit principes : porro de domo Juda, domum patris mei, et de filiis patris mei, placuit ei ut me eligeret regem super cunctum Israël.
- Sed et de filiis meis (filios enim mihi multos dedit Dominus) elegit Salomonem filium meum, ut sederet in throno regni Domini super Israël,
- dixitque mihi : Salomon filius tuus ædificavit domum meam, et atria mea : ipsum enim elegi mihi in filium, et ego ero ei in patrem.
- Et firmabo regnum ejus usque in æternum, si perseveraverit facere præcepta mea, et judicia, sicut et hodie.
- Nunc ergo coram universo cœtu Israël audiente Deo nostro, custodite, et perquirite cuncta mandata Domini Dei nostri : ut possideatis terram bonam, et relinquatis eam filiis vestris post vos usque in sempiternum.
- Tu autem, Salomon fili mi, scito Deum patris tui, et servito ei corde perfecto, animo voluntario : omnia enim corda scrutatur Dominus, et universas mentium cogitationes intelligit. Si quæsieris eum, invenies : si autem dereliqueris eum, projiciet te in æternum.
- Nunc ergo quia elegit te Dominus ut ædificares domum sanctuarii, confortare, et perfice.
- Dedit autem David Salomoni filio suo descriptionem porticus, et templi, et cellariorum, et cœnaculi, et cubiculorum in adytis, et domus propitiationis,
- necnon et omnium quæ cogitaverat atriorum, et exedrarum per circuitum in thesauros domus Domini, et in thesauros sanctorum,
- divisionumque sacerdotalium et Leviticarum, in omnia opera domus Domini, et in universa vasa ministerii templi Domini.
- Aurum in pondere per singula vasa ministerii. Argenti quoque pondus pro vasorum et operum diversitate.
- Sed et in candelabra aurea, et ad lucernas eorum, aurum pro mensura uniuscujusque candelabri et lucernarum. Similiter et in candelabra argentea, et in lucernas eorum, pro diversitate mensuræ, pondus argenti tradidit.
- Aurum quoque dedit in mensas propositionis pro diversitate mensarum : similiter et argentum in alias mensas argenteas.
- Ad fuscinulas quoque, et phialas, et thuribula ex auro purissimo, et leunculos aureos pro qualitate mensuræ pondus distribuit in leunculum et leunculum. Similiter et in leones argenteos diversum argenti pondus separavit.
- Altari autem, in quo adoletur incensum, aurum purissimum dedit : ut ex ipso fieret similitudo quadrigæ cherubim extendentium alas, et velantium arcam fœderis Domini.
- Omnia, inquit, venerunt scripta manu Domini ad me, ut intelligerem universa opera exemplaris.
- Dixit quoque David Salomoni filio suo : Viriliter age, et confortare, et fac : ne timeas, et ne paveas : Dominus enim Deus meus tecum erit, et non dimittet te, nec derelinquet donec perficias omne opus ministerii domus Domini.

- Then David the king stood up upon his feet, and said, Hear me, my brethren, and my people: As for me, I had in mine heart to build an house of rest for the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and for the footstool of our God, and had made ready for the building:
- But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood.
- Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever: for he hath chosen Judah to be the ruler; and of the house of Judah, the house of my father; and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:
- And of all my sons, (for the LORD hath given me many sons,) he hath chosen Solomon my son to sit upon the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel.

- And, behold, the courses of the priests and the Levites, even they shall be with thee for all the service of the house of God: and there shall be with thee for all manner of workmanship every willing skilful man, for any manner of service: also the princes and all the people will be wholly at thy commandment.
