What is Christianity?
| Christianity is about God reaching out his hand in friendship to mankind. Christians believe that the whole world and everything in it was created by God. God is a personal being, a living God who is three, yet one: Father, Son and Spirit, just as we human beings have body, mind and soul! (see the Trinity).
The Bible says God created people in his image, to love him. Yet every person has rebelled against God and sinned. Yet instead of turning his back on us, God became a man, Jesus, who most scholars believe was born about the year 4 BC and lived among us. He taught a message of love throughout Palestine but public opinion turned against him and he was executed as a young man.
He died because of us - the death that we should have died. He was crucified on a cross, but he rose from the dead, and now calls us to trust him, to love him and to repent of our rebellion. If we do this, then we our relationship with God becomes restored and we will live forever with God.
Many non-Christians may think that being a Christian is about belonging to a particular church or following a certain set of rule. Most Christians however would agree that at its root, being a Christian means to be in a living relationship with Jesus.

Good News
The greatest news worthy item in the history of mankind has always been and will continue to remain the gospel (meaning good news). The good news is that Jesus Christ came to the world, born of a virgin without any sin, died on the cross, rose again on the third day to provide forgiveness of sin for all who will believe in Him.

God is the central being of all existence. He is eternal in that he has no beginning and no end. In the first chapter of the first book of Bible an account is given of God creating the universe and the earth and creating people in his own image.
Holy God

September, 19 - Daily Devotions
September scripture portion: Ezekiel 12 - Malachi (including the Books of Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi)
In today's reading Israel's restoration is promised. The Book of Hosea does not end on a note of gloom, but Hosea sees the future glory of the nation of Israel. Just as his wife was brought back from slavery and restored to his home and heart, so the nation would one day be restored to her land and to her Lord. These closing chapters magnify the faithful love of God in contrast to the unfaithfulness of His people.
In chapter 14 God gives a loving appeal to His "wife" (the nation of Israel) to return unto Him. He asks for sacrifices from her lips--words of confession--and not the sacrifices of animals. In return, He promises to heal their backslidings (verse 4) and restore them to His favor. He pictures the nation as a fruitful tree or vine (verses 4-7), once she was turned from her idols and returned to the Lord. Of course, we know that Israel is still not fruitful, but we also know that God's Word says she will be when Jesus Christ returns to the earth to establish His Kingdom and fulfill the promises made to her forefathers.
The closing verses of Hosea present two ways-- the way of the Lord, which is right; and the way of transgressors, which is wrong. I trust you will claim verse 4 for yourself, and experience the healing of sins forgiven!
The personal message here is that backsliders may return to the Lord, experience His forgiveness (I John 1:9), and be restored to the place of blessings and usefulness.
