But I tell you, that everyone who is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca!' shall be in danger of the council; and whoever shall say, 'You fool!' shall be in danger of the fire of Gehenna. Matthew 5:22

This verse occurs within the Sermon on the Mount. These words of Jesus emphasize that it is what is in the heart that is important - the action alone is not the sin, but the evil thoughts of the heart are equally wrong.

Some early manuscripts, including bot the Codex Sinaiticus and Codex Vaticanus texts. omit the phrase "without cause" from the verse.
