- Israel is a luxuriant vine that puts forth his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
- Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
- Surely now they will say, "We have no king; for we don't fear Yahweh; and the king, what can he do for us?"
- They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
- The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven; for its people will mourn over it, Along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
- It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
- Samaria and her king float away, like a twig on the water.
- The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, "Cover us!" and the hills, "Fall on us!"
- "Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn't overtake them in Gibeah.
- When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the nations will be gathered against them, when they are bound to their two transgressions.
- Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh; so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Ephraim. Judah will plow. Jacob will break his clods.
- Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Yahweh, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
- You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
- Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
- So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.

- גפן בוקק ישראל פרי ישוה־לו כרב לפריו הרבה למזבחות כטוב לארצו היטיבו מצבות׃
- חלק לבם עתה יאשמו הוא יערף מזבחותם ישדד מצבותם׃
- כי עתה יאמרו אין מלך לנו כי לא יראנו את־יהוה והמלך מה־יעשה־לנו׃
- דברו דברים אלות שוא כרת ברית ופרח כראש משפט על תלמי שדי׃
- לעגלות בית און יגורו שכן שמרון כי־אבל עליו עמו וכמריו עליו יגילו על־כבודו כי־גלה ממנו׃
- גם־אותו לאשור יובל מנחה למלך ירב בשנה אפרים יקח ויבוש ישראל מעצתו׃
- נדמה שמרון מלכה כקצף על־פני־מים׃
- ונשמדו במות און חטאת ישראל קוץ ודרדר יעלה על־מזבחותם ואמרו להרים כסונו ולגבעות נפלו עלינו׃ ס
- מימי הגבעה חטאת ישראל שם עמדו לא־תשיגם בגבעה מלחמה על־בני עלוה׃
- באותי ואסרם ואספו עליהם עמים באסרם לשתי ׃
- ואפרים עגלה מלמדה אהבתי לדוש ואני עברתי על־טוב צוארה ארכיב אפרים יחרוש יהודה ישדד־לו יעקב׃
- זרעו לכם לצדקה קצרו לפי־חסד נירו לכם ניר ועת לדרוש את־יהוה עד־יבוא וירה צדק לכם׃
- חרשתם־רשע עולתה קצרתם אכלתם פרי־כחש כי־בטחת בדרךך ברב גבוריך׃
- וקאם שאון בעמך וכל־מבצריך יושד כשד שלמן בית ארבאל ביום מלחמה אם על־בנים רטשה׃
- ככה עשה לכם בית־אל מפני רעת רעתכם בשחר נדמה נדמה מלך ישראל׃

- Vitis frondosa Israël, fructus adæquatus est ei : secundum multitudinem fructus sui multiplicavit altaria, juxta ubertatem terræ suæ exuberavit simulacris.
- Divisum est cor eorum, nunc interibunt ; ipse confringet simulacra eorum, depopulabitur aras eorum.
- Quia nunc dicent : Non est rex nobis, non enim timemus Dominum ; et rex quid faciet nobis ?
- Loquimini verba visionis inutilis, et ferietis fœdus ; et germinabit quasi amaritudo judicium super sulcos agri.
- Vaccas Bethaven coluerunt habitatores Samariæ ; quia luxit super eum populus ejus, et æditui ejus super eum exsultaverunt in gloria ejus, quia migravit ab eo.
- Siquidem et ipse in Assur delatus est, munus regi ultori. Confusio Ephraim capiet, et confundetur Israël in voluntate sua.
- Transire fecit Samaria regem suum quasi spumam super faciem aquæ.
- Et disperdentur excelsa idoli, peccatum Israël ; lappa et tribulus ascendet super aras eorum : et dicent montibus : Operite nos, et collibus : Cadite super nos.
- Ex diebus Gabaa peccavit Israël ; ibi steterunt. Non comprehendet eos in Gabaa prælium super filios iniquitatis.
- Juxta desiderium meum corripiam eos : congregabuntur super eos populi, cum corripientur propter duas iniquitates suas.
- Ephraim vitula docta diligere trituram, et ego transivi super pulchritudinem colli ejus : ascendam super Ephraim, arabit Judas ; confringet sibi sulcos Jacob.
- Seminate vobis in justitia, et metite in ore misericordiæ. Innovate vobis novale ; tempus autem requirendi Dominum, cum venerit qui docebit vos justitiam.
- Arastis impietatem, iniquitatem messuistis : comedistis frugem mendacii, quia confisus es in viis tuis, in multitudine fortium tuorum.
- Consurget tumultus in populo tuo ; et omnes munitiones tuæ vastabuntur, sicut vastatus est Salmana a domo ejus qui judicavit Baal in die prælii, matre super filios allisa.
- Sic fecit vobis Bethel, a facie malitiæ nequitiarum vestrarum.

- Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
- Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
- For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
- They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
- The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
- It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
- As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
- The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
- O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
- It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
- And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
- Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
- Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
- Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.
- So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
