- Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which Yahweh God had made. He said to the woman, "Has God really said, 'You shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'"
- The woman said to the serpent, "Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat,
- but of the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden, God has said, 'You shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, lest you die.'"
- The serpent said to the woman, "You won't surely die,
- for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
- When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate; and she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate.
- The eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
- They heard the voice of Yahweh God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden.
- Yahweh God called to the man, and said to him, "Where are you?"
- The man said, "I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself."
- God said, "Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?"
- The man said, "The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate."
- Yahweh God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?" The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate."
- Yahweh God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. On your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
- I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel."
- To the woman he said, "I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. In pain you will bring forth children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you."
- To Adam he said, "Because you have listened to your wife's voice, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, 'You shall not eat of it,' cursed is the ground for your sake. In toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.
- Thorns also and thistles will it bring forth to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
- By the sweat of your face will you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
- The man called his wife Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
- Yahweh God made coats of skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
- Yahweh God said, "Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he put forth his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever..."
- Therefore Yahweh God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
- So he drove out the man; and he placed Cherubs at the east of the garden of Eden, and the flame of a sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.

- והנחש היה ערום מכל חית השדה אשר עשה יהוה אלהים ויאמר אל־האשה אף כי־אמר אלהים לא תאכלו מכל עץ הגן׃
- ותאמר האשה אל־הנחש מפרי עץ־הגן נאכל׃
- ומפרי העץ אשר בתוך־הגן אמר אלהים לא תאכלו ממנו ולא תגעו בו פן־תמתון׃
- ויאמר הנחש אל־האשה לא־מות תמתון׃
- כי ידע אלהים כי ביום אכלכם ממנו ונפקחו עיניכם והייתם כאלהים ידעי טוב ורע׃
- ותרא האשה כי טוב העץ למאכל וכי תאוה־הוא לעינים ונחמד העץ להשכיל ותקח מפריו ותאכל ותתן גם־לאישה עמה ויאכל׃
- ותפקחנה עיני שניהם וידעו כי עירםם הם ויתפרו עלה תאנה ויעשו להם חגרת׃
- וישמעו את־קול יהוה אלהים מתהלך בגן לרוח היום ויתחבא האדם ואשתו מפני יהוה אלהים בתוך עץ הגן׃
- ויקרא יהוה אלהים אל־האדם ויאמר לו איכה׃
- ויאמר את־קלך שמעתי בגן ואירא כי־עירם אנכי ואחבא׃
- ויאמר מי הגיד לך כי עירם אתה המן־העץ אשר צויתיך לבלתי אכל־ממנו אכלת׃
- ויאמר האדם האשה אשר נתתה עמדי הוא נתנה־לי מן־העץ ואכל׃
- ויאמר יהוה אלהים לאשה מה־זאת עשית ותאמר האשה הנחש השיאני ואכל׃
- ויאמר יהוה אלהים אל־הנחש כי עשית זאת ארור אתה מכל־הבהמה ומכל חית השדה על־גחנך תלך ועפר תאכל כל־ימי חייך׃
- ואיבה אשית בינך ובין האשה ובין זרעך ובין זרעה הוא ישופך ראש ואתה תשופנו עקב׃ ס
- אל־האשה אמר הרבה ארבה עצבונך והרנך בעצב תלדי בנים ואל־אישך תשוקתך והוא ימשל־בך׃ ס
- ולאדם אמר כי־שמעת לקול אשתך ותאכל מן־העץ אשר צויתיך לאמר לא תאכל ממנו ארורה האדמה בעבורך בעצבון תאכלנה כל ימי חייך׃
- וקוץ ודרדר תצמיח לך ואכלת את־עשב השדה׃
- בזעת אפיך תאכל לחם עד שובך אל־האדמה כי ממנה לקחת כי־עפר אתה ואל־עפר תשוב׃
- ויקרא האדם שם אשתו חוה כי הוא היתה אם כל־חי׃
- ויעש יהוה אלהים לאדם ולאשתו כתנות עור וילבשם׃ ף
- ויאמר יהוה אלהים הן האדם היה כאחד ממנו לדעת טוב ורע ועתה פן־ישלח ידו ולקח גם מעץ החיים ואכל וחי לעלם׃
- וישלחהו יהוה אלהים מגן־עדן לעבד את־האדמה אשר לקח משם׃
- ויגרש את־האדם וישכן מקדם לגן־עדן את־הכרבים ואת להט החרב המתהפכת לשמר את־דרך עץ החיים׃ ס

- Sed et serpens erat callidior cunctis animantibus terræ quæ fecerat Dominus Deus. Qui dixit ad mulierem : Cur præcepit vobis Deus ut non comederetis de omni ligno paradisi ?
- Cui respondit mulier : De fructu lignorum, quæ sunt in paradiso, vescimur :
- de fructu vero ligni quod est in medio paradisi, præcepit nobis Deus ne comederemus, et ne tangeremus illud, ne forte moriamur.
- Dixit autem serpens ad mulierem : Nequaquam morte moriemini.
- Scit enim Deus quod in quocumque die comederitis ex eo, aperientur oculi vestri, et eritis sicut dii, scientes bonum et malum.
- Vidit igitur mulier quod bonum esset lignum ad vescendum, et pulchrum oculis, aspectuque delectabile : et tulit de fructu illius, et comedit : deditque viro suo, qui comedit.
- Et aperti sunt oculi amborum ; cumque cognovissent se esse nudos, consuerunt folia ficus, et fecerunt sibi perizomata.
- Et cum audissent vocem Domini Dei deambulantis in paradiso ad auram post meridiem, abscondit se Adam et uxor ejus a facie Domini Dei in medio ligni paradisi.
- Vocavitque Dominus Deus Adam, et dixit ei : Ubi es ?
- Qui ait : Vocem tuam audivi in paradiso, et timui, eo quod nudus essem, et abscondi me.
- Cui dixit : Quis enim indicavit tibi quod nudus esses, nisi quod ex ligno de quo præceperam tibi ne comederes, comedisti ?
- Dixitque Adam : Mulier, quam dedisti mihi sociam, dedit mihi de ligno, et comedi.
- Et dixit Dominus Deus ad mulierem : Quare hoc fecisti ? Quæ respondit : Serpens decepit me, et comedi.
- Et ait Dominus Deus ad serpentem : Quia fecisti hoc, maledictus es inter omnia animantia, et bestias terræ : super pectus tuum gradieris, et terram comedes cunctis diebus vitæ tuæ.
- Inimicitias ponam inter te et mulierem, et semen tuum et semen illius : ipsa conteret caput tuum, et tu insidiaberis calcaneo ejus.
- Mulieri quoque dixit : Multiplicabo ærumnas tuas, et conceptus tuos : in dolore paries filios, et sub viri potestate eris, et ipse dominabitur tui.
- Adæ vero dixit : Quia audisti vocem uxoris tuæ, et comedisti de ligno, ex quo præceperam tibi ne comederes, maledicta terra in opere tuo : in laboribus comedes ex ea cunctis diebus vitæ tuæ.
- Spinas et tribulos germinabit tibi, et comedes herbam terræ.
- In sudore vultus tui vesceris pane, donec revertaris in terram de qua sumptus es : quia pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris.
- Et vocavit Adam nomen uxoris suæ, Heva : eo quod mater esset cunctorum viventium.

- et ait : Ecce Adam quasi unus ex nobis factus est, sciens bonum et malum : nunc ergo ne forte mittat manum suam, et sumat etiam de ligno vitæ, et comedat, et vivat in æternum.
- Et emisit eum Dominus Deus de paradiso voluptatis, ut operaretur terram de qua sumptus est.
- Ejecitque Adam : et collocavit ante paradisum voluptatis cherubim, et flammeum gladium, atque versatilem, ad custodiendam viam ligni vitæ.

- Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
- And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
- But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
- And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
- For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
- And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
- And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
- And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
- And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
- And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
- And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
- And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
- And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
- And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
- And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
- Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
- And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
