Commentary
In Matthew 16:16, the apostle Peter is responding to Jesus' question of who the Son of Man is. Peter, in replying that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God, is shown by Jesus to be revealing a truth from God - a truth on which Jesus would build the church. The passage is commonly known as the Confession of Peter.
