Synopsis
A year is the time it takes for the earth to fully orbit the Sun - approximately 365 days. History is traditionally divided in the West into the years before and Jesus' birth - AD and BC. Many churches have specific church services and Bible readings based on the date, a system known as the Christian calendar.
