The Syriac Orthodox Church is an autocephalous [[Oriental Orthodox]] church based in Syria, but with members spread throughout the world. It is one of the five churches that comprised the early church. Its official language is Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic and the church is led by the [[Syrian Patriarch of Antioch]] and although geographically it is centred in Syria its members are as far afield as [[Kerala]] in [[India]] and have been there since ancient times, as well as now being in Western countries like the [[USA]] because of recent emigration. It is in communion with both the [[Coptic Church]] and [[Armenian Apostolic Church]], but not with the [[Eastern Orthodox]] churches.
