Job 8 Text (WEB) Then Bildad the Shuhite answered, "How long will you speak these things? Shall the words of your mouth be a mighty wind? Does God pervert justice? Or does the Almighty pervert righteousness? If your children have sinned against him, He has delivered them into the hand of their disobedience. If you want to seek God diligently, make your supplication to the Almighty. If you were pure and upright, surely now he would awaken for you, and make the habitation of your righteousness prosperous. Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end would greatly increase. "Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart? "Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the rushes grow without water? While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, it withers before any other reed. So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish, Whose confidence shall break apart, Whose trust is a spider's web. He shall lean on his house, but it shall not stand. He shall cling to it, but it shall not endure. He is green before the sun. His shoots go forth over his garden. His roots are wrapped around the rock pile. He sees the place of stones. If he is destroyed from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, 'I have not seen you.' Behold, this is the joy of his way: out of the earth, others shall spring. "Behold, God will not cast away a blameless man, neither will he uphold the evildoers. He will still fill your mouth with laughter, your lips with shouting. Those who hate you shall be clothed with shame. The tent of the wicked shall be no more."
Job 8 Text (Hebrew) ויען בלדד השוחי ויאמר׃ עד־אן תמלל־אלה ורוח כביר אמרי־פיך׃ האל יעות משפט ואם־שדי יעות־צדק׃ אם־בניך חטאו־לו וישלחם ביד־פשעם׃ אם־אתה תשחר אל־אל ואל־שדי תתחןן׃ אם־זך וישר אתה כי־עתה יעיר עליך ושלם נות צדקך׃ והיה ראשיתך מצער ואחריתך ישגה מאד׃ כי־שאל־נא לדר רישון וכוןן לחקר אבותם׃ כי־תמול אנחנו ולא נדע כי צל ימינו עלי־ארץ׃ הלא־הם יורוך יאמרו לך ומלבם יוצאו מלים׃ היגאה־גמא בלא בצה ישגה־אחו בלי־מים׃ עדנו באבו לא יקטף ולפני כל־חציר ייבש׃ כן ארחות כל־שכחי אל ותקות חנף תאבד׃ אשר־יקוט כסלו ובית עכביש מבטחו׃ ישען על־ביתו ולא יעמד יחזיק בו ולא יקום׃ רטב הוא לפני־שמש ועל גנתו ינקתו תצא׃ על־גל שרשיו יסבכו בית אבנים יחזה׃ אם־יבלענו ממקומו וכחש בו לא ראיתיך׃ הן־הוא משוש דרכו ומעפר אחר יצמחו׃ הן־אל לא ימאס־תם ולא־יחזיק ביד־מרעים׃ עד־ימלה שחוק פיך ושפתיך תרועה׃ שנאיך ילבשו־בשת ואהל רשעים איננו׃ ף
Job 8 Text (Greek) υπολαβων δε βαλδαδ ο σαυχιτης μεχρι τινος λαλησεις ταυτα πνευμα πολυρημον του στοματος μη ο κυριος αδικησει κρινων η ο τα παντα ποιησας ταραξει το ει οι υιοι σου ημαρτον εναντιον αυτου απεστειλεν εν χειρι ανομιας συ δε ορθριζε προς κυριον παντοκρατορα ει καθαρος ει και αληθινος δεησεως επακουσεται σου αποκαταστησει δε σοι διαιταν εσται ουν τα μεν πρωτα σου ολιγα τα δε εσχατα σου επερωτησον γαρ γενεαν πρωτην εξιχνιασον δε κατα γενος χθιζοι γαρ εσμεν και ουκ οιδαμεν σκια γαρ εστιν ημων επι της γης ο η ουχ ουτοι σε διδαξουσιν και αναγγελουσιν και εκ καρδιας εξαξουσιν μη θαλλει παπυρος ανευ υδατος η υψωθησεται βουτομον ανευ ετι ον επι ριζης και ου μη θερισθη προ του πιειν πασα βοτανη ουχι ουτως τοινυν εσται τα εσχατα παντων των επιλανθανομενων του κυριου ελπις γαρ ασεβους αοικητος γαρ αυτου εσται ο οικος αραχνη δε αυτου αποβησεται η εαν υπερειση την οικιαν αυτου ου μη στη επιλαβομενου δε αυτου ου μη υγρος γαρ εστιν υπο ηλιου και εκ σαπριας αυτου ο ραδαμνος αυτου επι συναγωγην λιθων κοιμαται εν δε μεσω χαλικων εαν καταπιη ο τοπος ψευσεται αυτον ουχ εορακας οτι καταστροφη ασεβους τοιαυτη εκ δε γης αλλον ο γαρ κυριος ου μη αποποιησηται τον ακακον παν δε δωρον ασεβους ου αληθινων δε στομα εμπλησει γελωτος τα δε χειλη αυτων οι δε εχθροι αυτων ενδυσονται αισχυνην διαιτα δε ασεβους ουκ
Job 8 Text (Latin) Respondens autem Baldad Suhites, dixit : Usquequo loqueris talia, et spiritus multiplex sermones oris tui ? Numquid Deus supplantat judicium ? aut Omnipotens subvertit quod justum est ? Etiam si filii tui peccaverunt ei, et dimisit eos in manu iniquitatis suæ : tu tamen si diluculo consurrexeris ad Deum, et Omnipotentem fueris deprecatus : si mundus et rectus incesseris, statim evigilabit ad te, et pacatum reddet habitaculum justitiæ tuæ ; in tantum, ut si priora tua fuerint parva, et novissima tua multiplicentur nimis. Interroga enim generationem pristinam, et diligenter investiga patrum memoriam : (hesterni quippe sumus, et ignoramus, quoniam sicut umbra dies nostri sunt super terram.) Et ipsi docebunt te, loquentur tibi, et de corde suo proferent eloquia. Numquid vivere potest scirpus absque humore ? aut crescere carectum sine aqua ? Cum adhuc sit in flore, nec carpatur manu, ante omnes herbas arescit. Sic viæ omnium qui obliviscuntur Deum, et spes hypocritæ peribit. Non ei placebit vecordia sua, et sicut tela aranearum fiducia ejus. Innitetur super domum suam, et non stabit ; fulciet eam, et non consurget. Humectus videtur antequam veniat sol, et in ortu suo germen ejus egredietur. Super acervum petrarum radices ejus densabuntur, et inter lapides commorabitur. Si absorbuerit eum de loco suo, negabit eum, et dicet : Non novi te. Hæc est enim lætitia viæ ejus, ut rursum de terra alii germinentur, Deus non projiciet simplicem, nec porriget manum malignis, donec impleatur risu os tuum, et labia tua jubilo. Qui oderunt te induentur confusione, et tabernaculum impiorum non subsistet.
Job 8 Text (KJV) Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? Doth God pervert judgment? or doth the Almighty pervert justice? If thy children have sinned against him, and he have cast them away for their transgression; If thou wouldest seek unto God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) Shall not they teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water? Whilst it is yet in his greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. If he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: Till he fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to nought.
