Job 28 Text (WEB) "Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine. Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore. Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness. He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth. As for the earth, out of it comes bread; Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire. Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold. That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon's eye seen it. The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there. He puts forth his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots. He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing. He binds the streams that they don't trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings forth to light. "But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding? Man doesn't know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living. The deep says, 'It isn't in me.' The sea says, 'It isn't with me.' It can't be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price. It can't be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire. Gold and glass can't equal it, neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold. No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies. The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold. Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding? Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky. Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.' "God understands its way, and he knows its place. For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky. He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder; then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out. To man he said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.'"

Job 28 Text (Greek) εστιν γαρ αργυριω τοπος οθεν γινεται τοπος δε χρυσιω οθεν σιδηρος μεν γαρ εκ γης γινεται χαλκος δε ισα λιθω ταξιν εθετο σκοτει και παν περας αυτος εξακριβαζεται λιθος σκοτια και σκια διακοπη χειμαρρου απο κονιας οι δε επιλανθανομενοι οδον δικαιαν ησθενησαν εκ γη εξ αυτης εξελευσεται αρτος υποκατω αυτης εστραφη ωσει τοπος σαπφειρου οι λιθοι αυτης και χωμα χρυσιον τριβος ουκ εγνω αυτην πετεινον και ου παρεβλεψεν αυτην οφθαλμος ουκ επατησαν αυτην υιοι αλαζονων ου παρηλθεν επ' αυτης εν ακροτομω εξετεινεν χειρα αυτου κατεστρεψεν δε εκ ριζων δινας δε ποταμων ερρηξεν παν δε εντιμον ειδεν μου ο βαθη δε ποταμων ανεκαλυψεν εδειξεν δε εαυτου δυναμιν εις η δε σοφια ποθεν ευρεθη ποιος δε τοπος εστιν της ουκ οιδεν βροτος οδον αυτης ουδε μη ευρεθη εν αβυσσος ειπεν ουκ εστιν εν εμοι και θαλασσα ειπεν ουκ εστιν μετ' ου δωσει συγκλεισμον αντ' αυτης και ου σταθησεται αργυριον ανταλλαγμα και ου συμβασταχθησεται χρυσιω ωφιρ εν ονυχι τιμιω και ουκ ισωθησεται αυτη χρυσιον και υαλος και το αλλαγμα αυτης σκευη μετεωρα και γαβις ου μνησθησεται και ελκυσον σοφιαν υπερ τα ουκ ισωθησεται αυτη τοπαζιον αιθιοπιας χρυσιω καθαρω ου η δε σοφια ποθεν ευρεθη ποιος δε τοπος εστιν της λεληθεν παντα ανθρωπον και απο πετεινων του ουρανου η απωλεια και ο θανατος ειπαν ακηκοαμεν δε αυτης το ο θεος ευ συνεστησεν αυτης την οδον αυτος δε οιδεν τον τοπον αυτος γαρ την υπ' ουρανον πασαν εφορα ειδως τα εν τη γη παντα α ανεμων σταθμον υδατος τε οτε εποιησεν ουτως υετον ηριθμησεν και οδον εν τιναγματι τοτε ειδεν αυτην και εξηγησατο αυτην ετοιμασας ειπεν δε ανθρωπω ιδου η θεοσεβεια εστιν σοφια το δε απεχεσθαι απο κακων εστιν
Job 28 Text (Latin) Habet argentum venarum suarum principia, et auro locus est in quo conflatur. Ferrum de terra tollitur, et lapis solutus calore in æs vertitur. Tempus posuit tenebris, et universorum finem ipse considerat, lapidem quoque caliginis et umbram mortis. Dividit torrens a populo peregrinante, eos quos oblitus est pes egentis hominis, et invios. Terra, de qua oriebatur panis, in loco suo igni subversa est. Locus sapphiri lapides ejus, et glebæ illius aurum. Semitam ignoravit avis, nec intuitus est eam oculus vulturis. Non calcaverunt eam filii institorum, nec pertransivit per eam leæna. Ad silicem extendit manum suam, subvertit a radicibus montes. In petris rivos excidit, et omne pretiosum vidit oculus ejus. Profunda quoque fluviorum scrutatus est, et abscondita in lucem produxit. Sapientia vero ubi invenitur ? et quis est locus intelligentiæ ? Nescit homo pretium ejus, nec invenitur in terra suaviter viventium. Abyssus dicit : Non est in me, et mare loquitur : Non est mecum. Non dabitur aurum obrizum pro ea, nec appendetur argentum in commutatione ejus. Non conferetur tinctis Indiæ coloribus, nec lapidi sardonycho pretiosissimo, vel sapphiro. Non adæquabitur ei aurum vel vitrum, nec commutabuntur pro ea vasa auri. Excelsa et eminentia non memorabuntur comparatione ejus : trahitur autem sapientia de occultis. Non adæquabitur ei topazius de Æthiopia, nec tincturæ mundissimæ componetur. Unde ergo sapientia venit ? et quis est locus intelligentiæ ? Abscondita est ab oculis omnium viventium : volucres quoque cæli latet. Perditio et mors dixerunt : Auribus nostris audivimus famam ejus. Deus intelligit viam ejus, et ipse novit locum illius. Ipse enim fines mundi intuetur, et omnia quæ sub cælo sunt respicit. Qui fecit ventis pondus, et aquas appendit in mensura. Quando ponebat pluviis legem, et viam procellis sonantibus : tunc vidit illam et enarravit, et præparavit, et investigavit. Et dixit homini : Ecce timor Domini, ipsa est sapientia, et recedere a malo, intelligentia.
Job 28 Text (KJV) Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it. Iron is taken out of the earth, and brass is molten out of the stone. He setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out all perfection: the stones of darkness, and the shadow of death. The flood breaketh out from the inhabitant; even the waters forgotten of the foot: they are dried up, they are gone away from men. As for the earth, out of it cometh bread: and under it is turned up as it were fire. The stones of it are the place of sapphires: and it hath dust of gold. There is a path which no fowl knoweth, and which the vulture's eye hath not seen: The lion's whelps have not trodden it, nor the fierce lion passed by it. He putteth forth his hand upon the rock; he overturneth the mountains by the roots. He cutteth out rivers among the rocks; and his eye seeth every precious thing. He bindeth the floods from overflowing; and the thing that is hid bringeth he forth to light. But where shall wisdom be found? and where is the place of understanding? Man knoweth not the price thereof; neither is it found in the land of the living. The depth saith, It is not in me: and the sea saith, It is not with me. When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder: Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out. And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.
