Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. The same came to him by night, and said to him, "Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him." Jesus answered him, "Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can't see the Kingdom of God." John 3:1-3

The term born again is used to describe the the time a person becomes a Christian. Christians believe that when they place their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that they become new people, who will live eternally with God. The Christian use of the term is derived from the third chapter of the Gospel of John, where Nicodemus is told by Jesus that "No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born again."
