- After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth.
- He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them,
- and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers.
- He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath, and persuaded Jews and Greeks.
- But when Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.
- When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!"
- He departed there, and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue.
- Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized.
- The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, "Don't be afraid, but speak and don't be silent;
- for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city."
- He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
- But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat,
- saying, "This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law."
- But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;
- but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don't want to be a judge of these matters."
- He drove them from the judgment seat.
- Then all the Greeks laid hold on Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. Gallio didn't care about any of these things.
- Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers, and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow.
- He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
- When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined;
- but taking his leave of them, and saying, "I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills," he set sail from Ephesus.
- When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the assembly, and went down to Antioch.
- Having spent some time there, he departed, and went through the region of Galatia, and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples.
- Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures.
- This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John.
- He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.
- When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him, and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace;
- for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.

- אחר כן סר פולוס מאתינס ויבא אל קורנתוס׃
- וימצא יהודי נולד בפונטוס ומשו עקילס אשר בא מקרוב מן איטליא הוא ואשתו פריסקלה מפני אשר צוה קלודיוס את כל היהודים לסור מעיר רומי׃
- ויבא אליהם ויהי בהיתם בני אמנות אחת וישב אתם ויעש מלאכתו ואמנותם עשות יריעות אהלים׃
- וידבר בבית הכנסת בכל שבת ושבת ויוכח את היהודים ואת היונים׃
- וכבוא סילא וטימותיוס ממקדוניא היה פולוס נגש ברוח להעיד אל היהודים כי ישוע הוא המשיח׃
- ויהי כהמרותם וכגדפם וינער את בגדיו ויאמר אליהם דמכם בראשיכם ואנכי נקי מעתה אלכה לי אל הגוים׃
- וילך משם ויבא אל בית איש ושמו יוסטוס איש ירא אלהים וביתו סמוך לבית הכנסת׃
- וקריספוס ראש הכנסת האמין באדון הוא וכל ביתו וגם קורנתים רבים בשמעם האמינו ויטבלו׃
- ודבר האדון היה אל פולוס במחזה בלילה לאמר אל תירא כי אם דבר ואל תחשה׃
- כי עמך אנכי ואיש אל יגע בך להרע לך כי גוי גדול לי בעיר הזאת׃
- וישב שם שנה וששה חדשים וילמד בהם את דבר האלהים׃
- ויהי בהיות גליון שר מדינת אכיא ויקומו היהודים כלם וחדו על פולוס ויביאהו אל כסא המשפט׃
- ויאמרו האיש הזה מפתה את בני האדם לעבד את אלהים בלא כתורה׃
- ויהי אך בקש פולוס לפתח את פיו וגליון אמר אל היהודים לאמר אם היה דבר פשע או מעשה נבלה כי עתה נשאתי ושמעתי אתכם היהודים כמשפט׃
- אבל אם היא שאלה על מלין ושמות והדת שלכם ראו אתם ואני אין רצוני להיות שפט על דברים כאלה׃
- ויגרש אתם מלפני כסא המשפט׃
- ויאחזו כל היונים את סוסתנים ראש הכנסת ויכוהו לפני כסא המשפט וגליון לא שת לבו גם לזאת׃
- ופולוס ישב שם עוד ימים רבים ויפטר מן האחים וירד באניה ללכת אל סוריא ואתו פריסקלה ועקילס ויגלח את ראשו בקנכרי כי נדר עליו׃
- ויבאו אל אפסוס ויעזב אתם שם והוא הלך לבית הכנסת וידבר עם היהודים׃
- ויבקשו ממנו להאריך ימי שבתו אתם ולא אבה׃
- כי אם נפטר מהם באמרו מחיב אני לחג את החג הבא בירושלים ואחרי כן אשובה אליכם אם ירצה יהוה וילך לו באניה מן אפסוס׃
- ויבא אל קסרין ויעל וישאל לשלום הקהלה וירד אל אנטיוכיא׃
- וישב שם ימים אחדים וילך למסעיו ויעבר בארץ גלטיא ופרוגיא ויחזק את כל התלמידים׃
- ואיש יהודי בא אל אפסוס ועיר מולדתו אלכסנדריא ושמו אפולוס איש דברים ותקיף בכתובים׃
- הוא היה מלמד דרך האדון והוא מדבר כחם רוחו ומלמד היטב על אדות ישוע ולא ידע כי אם טבילת יוחנן לבדה׃
- והוא החל לקרא בבית הכנסת בבטחון לבב וישמעו אתו עקילס ופריסקלה ויקחהו אליהם ויוסיפו להגיד לו את דרך האלהים באר היטב׃
- ויחפץ ללכת לאכיא ויכתבו האחים אל התלמידים ויעררו אתם לקבלו ויבא שמה ויעזר הרבה את המאמינים על ידי החסד׃
- כי בחזקה התוכח עם היהודים לפני כל העם ויראם מן המקראות כי ישוע הוא המשיח׃

- Post hæc egressus ab Athenis, venit Corinthum :
- et inveniens quemdam Judæum nomine Aquilam, Ponticum genere, qui nuper venerat ab Italia, et Priscillam uxorem ejus (eo quod præcepisset Claudius discedere omnes Judæos a Roma), accessit ad eos.
- Et quia ejusdem erat artis, manebat apud eos, et operabatur. (Erant autem scenofactoriæ artis.)
- Et disputabat in synagoga per omne sabbatum, interponens nomen Domini Jesu, suadebatque Judæis et Græcis.
- Cum venissent autem de Macedonia Silas et Timotheus, instabat verbo Paulus, testificans Judæis esse Christum Jesum.
- Contradicentibus autem eis, et blasphemantibus, excutiens vestimenta sua, dixit ad eos : Sanguis vester super caput vestrum : mundus ego, ex hoc ad gentes vadam.
- Et migrans inde, intravit in domum cujusdam, nomine Titi Justi, colentis Deum, cujus domus erat conjuncta synagogæ.
- Crispus autem archisynagogus credidit Domino cum omni domo sua : et multi Corinthiorum audientes credebant, et baptizabantur.
- Dixit autem Dominus nocte per visionem Paulo : Noli timere, sed loquere, et ne taceas :
- propter quod ego sum tecum : et nemo apponetur tibi ut noceat te : quoniam populus est mihi multus in hac civitate.
- Sedit autem ibi annum et sex menses, docens apud eos verbum Dei.
- Gallione autem proconsule Achaiæ, insurrexerunt uno animo Judæi in Paulum, et adduxerunt eum ad tribunal,
- dicentes : Quia contra legem hic persuadet hominibus colere Deum.
- Incipiente autem Paulo aperire os, dixit Gallio ad Judæos : Si quidem esset iniquum aliquid, aut facinus pessimum o viri Judæi, recte vos sustinerem.
- Si vero quæstiones sunt de verbo, et nominibus, et lege vestra, vos ipsi videritis : judex ego horum nolo esse.
- Et minavit eos a tribunali.
- Apprehendentes autem omnes Sosthenem principem synagogæ, percutiebant eum ante tribunal : et nihil eorum Gallioni curæ erat.
- Paulus vero cum adhuc sustinuisset dies multos fratribus valefaciens, navigavit in Syriam (et cum eo Priscilla et Aquila), qui sibi totonderat in Cenchris caput : habebat enim votum.
- Devenitque Ephesum, et illos ibi reliquit. Ipse vero ingressus synagogam, disputabat cum Judæis.
- Rogantibus autem eis ut ampliori tempore maneret, non consensit,
- sed valefaciens, et dicens : Iterum revertar ad vos Deo volente, profectus est ab Epheso.
- Et descendens Cæsaream, ascendit, et salutavit ecclesiam, et descendit Antiochiam.
- Et facto ibi aliquanto tempore profectus est, perambulans ex ordine Galaticam regionem, et Phrygiam, confirmans omnes discipulos.
- Judæus autem quidam, Apollo nomine, Alexandrinus genere, vir eloquens, devenit Ephesum, potens in scripturis.
- Hic erat edoctus viam Domini : et fervens spiritu loquebatur, et docebat diligenter ea quæ sunt Jesu, sciens tantum baptisma Joannis.
- Hic ergo cœpit fiducialiter agere in synagoga. Quem cum audissent Priscilla et Aquila, assumpserunt eum, et diligentius exposuerunt ei viam Domini.
- Cum autem vellet ire Achaiam, exhortati fratres, scripserunt discipulis ut susciperent eum. Qui cum venisset, contulit multum his qui crediderant.
- Vehementer enim Judæos revincebat publice, ostendens per Scripturas, esse Christum Jesum.

- And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.
- And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
