What is Christianity?
| Christianity is about God reaching out his hand in friendship to mankind. Christians believe that the whole world and everything in it was created by God. God is a personal being, a living God who is three, yet one: Father, Son and Spirit, just as we human beings have body, mind and soul! (see the Trinity).
The Bible says God created people in his image, to love him. Yet every person has rebelled against God and sinned. Yet instead of turning his back on us, God became a man, Jesus, who most scholars believe was born about the year 4 BC and lived among us. He taught a message of love throughout Palestine but public opinion turned against him and he was executed as a young man.
He died because of us - the death that we should have died. He was crucified on a cross, but he rose from the dead, and now calls us to trust him, to love him and to repent of our rebellion. If we do this, then we our relationship with God becomes restored and we will live forever with God.
Many non-Christians may think that being a Christian is about belonging to a particular church or following a certain set of rule. Most Christians however would agree that at its root, being a Christian means to be in a living relationship with Jesus.

Good News
The greatest news worthy item in the history of mankind has always been and will continue to remain the gospel (meaning good news). The good news is that Jesus Christ came to the world, born of a virgin without any sin, died on the cross, rose again on the third day to provide forgiveness of sin for all who will believe in Him.

God is the central being of all existence. He is eternal in that he has no beginning and no end. In the first chapter of the first book of Bible an account is given of God creating the universe and the earth and creating people in his own image.

March, 5 - Daily Devotions
March Scripture Portion for Bible Commentary Deuteronomy 25 - 1 Samuel 29 including the books of Book of Joshua, Judges and Ruth
Chapter 3 covers the miracle of the crossing of the Jordan River. In it we see the people sanctified (verses 1-5); Joshua magnified (verses 6-8); the Lord glorified (verses 9-13); and the Word verified (verses 14-17).
The Ark of the Covenant symbolized the presence of God. It went before the people to lead them, and it was kept in the midst of the river until all the nation passed over. Christ always goes before His people and opens the way, but the people had to sanctify themselves and be ready, for God was going to lead them in a new way (verse 4).
Two memorials are built in chapter 4--one by the twelve chosen men on the bank of the river, and the other by Joshua in the midst of the river. They were to be memorials of the crossing. The twelve stones on the bank of the Jordan came out of the midst of the river (verse 8), as evidence that God did part the waters and take His people safely across. The twelve hidden stones in the midst of the river could be seen only by God, but they also spoke of Israel's wonderful crossing.
The main lesson of these chapters is that there can be no conquest without death to self (crossing the Jordan) and identification with Christ's resurrection (the two memorials of stone). Before the Jews could gain victory over the enemy, they had to experience victory over sin and self (circumcision). Before we, as Christians, can enjoy a victorious Christian life we must put away sin of the flesh and allow God to completely control our lives.
