'''St John the Baptist Anglican Church''' is an [[Anglican]] [[church (building)|church]] located between Alt and Bland Streets, [[Ashfield, New South Wales|Ashfield]], [[Sydney]], [[Australia]]. The church building is the oldest surviving building in Ashfield.

[[Edmund Blacket]] in 1842, shortly after arriving in Sydney, was requested to inspect the walls of the church building, then under construction. As a result of his report, the walls were demolished and rebuilt <ref>Coupe, Sheena and Robert (1988). "''Speed The Plough, Ashfield 1788-1988''". St John's was the first church to be established between Sydney and [[Parramatta, New South Wales|Parramatta]]<ref>author unlisted (2004). "''St John The Baptist, Ashfield, The First 150 Years''". Published by ''the Churchwardens of St John's Anglican Church, Ashfield'', 1990. Updated 2004. p1.</ref>, making it among the oldest continuous churches still in existence in Sydney.

Australia's only memorial to [[Australian Air Force Cadets]] who died in [[World War II]] occupies a prominent position on the grounds, and a memorial service attended by the Cadets is held annually.

In 2008 the church was part of an amalgamation with the Parishes of [[Five Dock, New South Wales|Five Dock]] and [[Haberfield, New South Wales|Haberfield]], forming Christ Church Inner West Anglican Community (CCIW)<ref>"New Year equals New Parish". South Sydney News, Southern Cross. Published by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, December 2007. ISSN 1445-0089.</ref> with Andrew Katay continuing as the Rector of the new parish. It currently has three services at Ashfield, and two services at Five Dock.
