WikiChristian:Server status

Wikichristian is growing everyday and so do the demands on the server. Wikichristian web server was down for a few hours on 11/18/05 due to overwhelming amount of requests. In order to solve the problem, the web server was rebooted and the server is up and running again. We will have to keep upgrading the capacity of our servers as we grow.

As of now, wikichristian is hosted on a dedicated server with about 250 MB of RAM on unix platform. We might have to upgrade to a higher capacity server in the near future as the demands on the server keep growing.

Should you notice any problems with the server, or would like to contribute toward the expenses involved in running the website, please contact the system admin at tumpati at hotmail dot com. (no spaces).

Upgraded the software to the latest version Wikimedia 1.5.6. You may experience some problems with the images. We are working on fixing these problems. Please pray for God's wisdom since some of these things can be challenging to fix. --Prab 08:45, 26 January 2006 (EST)

Thanks for the comments Mustaphile. We just added the Bad Behavior extension to help curb some of the vandalism. It is a set of PHP scripts which prevents spambots from accessing the wiki site by analyzing their actual HTTP requests and comparing them to profiles from known spambots. We have been very successful so far in dealing with spam on this wiki, thanks to many dedicated users, and hopefully, this new tool will help us all better. Wikichristian server upgrade 2006

Wikichristian website is growing everyday and has already been the largest christian wiki encyclopedia. That places significant amount of load on the server. The current server at serverpronto has the following capacity

· AMD 2000+

· 256 MB DDR RAM

· 40 GB Hard Drive

· 200 GB Traffic

· 100Mbps Connection

We are experiencing server being busy or not responding frequently and it is about time to upgrade to a higher capacity server.

The next server we would like to upgrade to has the following capacity.

· AMD 2600+

· 768 MB DDR RAM

· 120 GB Hard Drive

· 600 GB Traffic

· 100Mbps Connection

Wikichristian needs your help

The new server would cost about $99.95 a month as compared to the 29.95 we are paying as of 8 February 2006. This does not include the countless hours of technical work involved in upgrading and maintaining the server, which is all volunteered by wikichristians.

We are looking for 12 sponsors who would sponsor wikichristian server for one month each. As the wikiadmin and the first wikichristian, I would like to take the honour to sponsor the first month. We are going to setup a paypal account in order to facilitate this. We will post the details of how to pay. If you would like to sponsor, please leave your comments below with your user name.

We need to do this as soon as possible so respond quickly, if you are interested in sponsoring the server for one month. If you are a technical person with software background interested in helping in the technical work involved in the upgrade, please leave a message to me.

WikiChristian website moved to a new server

We have successfully moved the website of wikichristian to our new server at 66.226.75.99 on May 1st 2006. The expense of the server is USD 69.99 per month and is born fully by me so far. Wikichristian finances

Wikichristian has server costs of about $600 USD per annum as of October, 2006. Our server is presently hosted by aplus.net and has the following spesifications - VALUE SERVER, Celeron CPU 1.7, 512MB RAM, IDE HDD 60GB or Higher, 500 GB Monthly Transfer and costs $49/month which is a better deal than the earlier price of $69.99/month!

We may need to upgrade the server as we grow which may lead to additional expense. We need to start thinking about getting a registered non-profit organization in the United States. If you have any suggestions or would like to contribute toward the expenses, please leave your ideas here

Wikichristian server up and running again

Wikichristian is growing and with it some growth pains! The server was full in capacity that lead to the server down time. Upon looking at the server in consultation with the support team, we learned that some of the backup files which were old were taking up significant space causing the trouble. Since we only need the latest backup, we were able to delete the older backups and clear as much as 20 GB of space. The database had some issue that prolonged the downtime but we were able to fix the issue upon working on it for many many hours. We are talking to our webhost for an upgrade in the near future in order to accomodate future growth. The new server might cost us about $99.00 per month as per aplus.net, our webhost for a standard dedicated server.
