This is usually done to prevent vandalism, especially high risk pages such as templates that are widely used. Administrators, commonly known as admins and also called sysops (system operators), are trusted WikiChristian editors with access to to features to help with maintenance. Bureaucrats can grant/revoke administrator permission.
