Talk:Characters of the Bible

I think it is much better for this page to be prose rather than simply lists of people in the Bible. The list could become enormous. For lists of people in the Bible the appropriate place to put it is in: Bible Characters Index and a more specific index such as Kings of Israel Index. --Graham grove 06:15, 8 August 2008 (PDT)

If it is just prose with links-- then how is this page different than a summary of Bible history?--Carlaude (talk) 10:08, 8 August 2008 (PDT)
I guess the difference is going to be subtle. The focus in this page will be an overview of who is in the Bible, e.g. who were the Patriarchs, who were the judges, who were the apostles etc. A page on Bible history (is there one? I'm not sure there is) would have a focus more on what events, e.g. how did the Hebrews end up with a divided kingdom, how did they end up exiled and how did they end up back in Israel? The page on the Bible itself will have more focus on how the Bible is divided up and how it has come down through the ages to us today. --Graham grove 10:21, 8 August 2008 (PDT)
I think the page will be more useful for folks if i made to help people find a name that they forgot or do not know. This can be done best with lists for the key figures. We also need to inculde some people not people not in those caragories of people you name, like John the Baptist.--Carlaude (talk) 08:50, 9 August 2008 (PDT)
Even if you think it ought to be in all prose, I think you gained nothing by removing all lists until the prose is written from it.--Carlaude (talk) 08:55, 9 August 2008 (PDT)
Okay, here's some prose. --Graham grove 11:43, 9 August 2008 (PDT)
A list of Bible characters, which includes John the Baptist is in: Bible Characters Index. You can see the alphabetised link to the index on the Characters of the Bible page - it's the bit which goes: A B C D E etc. --Graham grove 11:44, 9 August 2008 (PDT)
Yes, but Bible Characters Index is for a different purpose. If you know the name of John the Baptist then you can look in Bible Characters Index, but not-- as I said-- to help find a name that you forgot or do not know.
As the page is written now, it is basicly a summary of Bible history. In addition to my comments above-- that a page to help people find a name that they do not know can be done best with lists for the key figures-- folks could get more use out this page of Bible history by just renaming it something like "Bible history."--Carlaude (talk) 16:38, 9 August 2008 (PDT)
We obviously have a difference of opinion on this. I don't quite follow the logic or your argument and you don't quite follow my argument. How about you create a page "Significant Characters of the Bible Index" or "List of Important Biblical Figures" or something similar where you can make the list you would like? --Graham grove 15:01, 11 August 2008 (PDT)
