Syriac Orthodox Church

The Syriac Orthodox Church is an autocephalous Oriental Orthodox church based in Syria, but with members spread throughout the world. It is one of the five churches that comprised the early church. Its official language is Syriac, a dialect of Aramaic and the church is led by the Syrian Patriarch of Antioch and although geographically it is centred in Syria its members are as far afield as Kerala in India and have been there since ancient times, as well as now being in Western countries like the USA because of recent emigration. It is in communion with both the Coptic Church and Armenian Apostolic Church, but not with the Eastern Orthodox churches. (Read more)
