The modern day country of Israel is a small country in the Middle East, which was set up after the Second World War to be a home to the remaining Jews. It was established in the land of Palestine where Arab people, mostly Muslims had lived for generations. The name Israel comes from the Old Testament - the patriach Jacob was renamed Israel by God, and from his twelve sons, the Jewish nation arose, known as Israel.
