Controversial topic!
Discussions about this topic are sometimes hotly debated and can easily offend. If making a value judgement or voicing an opinion, be sure to write it gently and with the aim of avoiding offence. If an article is voicing opinions that you disagree with, it is best to leave that article unchanged and instead create a new link explaining your alternating view.

In brief, Islam is a religion based on the belief in one God that began in the 7th century after Christ. An Arab, called Mohammed founded it. It quickly spread throughout the Middle East and Northern Africa through the conquest of Muslim armies. Today there are millions of Muslims around the world.
