Synopsis

Baal was a god (or referred to any of the local spirit-gods) of the Phoenecians. Baal was worshipped by the Israelites in the time of Ahab.

Baal was a god (or referred to any of the local spirit-gods) of the Phoenecians. Baal was worshipped by the Israelites in the time of Ahab, as god of the rain and lightening. The prophet Elijah was called by God to turn the people's hearts back to God, away from Baal.
