Arminianism

A term used (sometimes in a derogatory sense by Reformed theologians) to mean someone who denies predestination, or more broadly, who denies the 5 tenets of Calvinism. Named for Jacobus Arminius whose opinions were condemned by the Synod of Dort (1618-1619). Often used as a shorthand for non-Calvinists or people who believe that humans play some active role in the salvation or damnation of their souls. (Read more)
