A year is the time it takes for the earth to fully orbit the Sun - approximately 365 days.
History is traditionally divided in the West into the years before and Jesus' birth - AD and BC.
- AD (Anno Domini) - Latin for "In the year of our Lord" - is now sometimes referred to as CE (Common Era)
- BC (Before Christ) is now sometimes referred to as BCE (Before the Common Era)
Many churches have specific church services and Bible readings based on the date, a system known as the Christian calendar.
