Babylon was a famous city and empire in the Ancient Near East. The city lay on the Euphrates River about 100 km south of modern day Baghdad.
The Babylonian Empire, at the height of it's power, conquered the Southern Kingdom of Judah, exiling its people. A number of Old Testament books speak about some of the events surrounding this such as 2 Kings, the Book of Isaiah and the Book of Daniel.
In the New Testament Babylon is mentioned a few times in the Book of Revelation.
