Amos 4 Text (WEB)
  1. Listen to this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who tell their husbands, "Bring us drinks!"
  2. The Lord Yahweh has sworn by his holiness that behold, "The days shall come on you that they will take you away with hooks, and the last of you with fish hooks.
  3. You will go out at the breaks in the wall, everyone straight before her; and you will cast yourselves into Harmon," says Yahweh.
  4. "Go to Bethel, and sin; to Gilgal, and sin more. Bring your sacrifices every morning, your tithes every three days,
  5. offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving of that which is leavened, and proclaim free will offerings and brag about them: for this pleases you, you children of Israel," says the Lord Yahweh.
  6. "I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and lack of bread in every town; yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
  7. "I also have withheld the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest; and I caused it to rain on one city, and caused it not to rain on another city. One place was rained on, and the piece where it didn't rain withered.
  8. So two or three cities staggered to one city to drink water, and were not satisfied: yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
  9. "I struck you with blight and mildew many times in your gardens and your vineyards; and your fig trees and your olive trees have the swarming locust devoured: yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
  10. "I sent plagues among you like I did Egypt. I have slain your young men with the sword, and have carried away your horses; and I filled your nostrils with the stench of your camp, yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
  11. "I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven't returned to me," says Yahweh.
  12. "Therefore thus will I do to you, Israel; because I will do this to you, prepare to meet your God, Israel.
  13. For, behold, he who forms the mountains, and creates the wind, and declares to man what is his thought; who makes the morning darkness, and treads on the high places of the Earth: Yahweh, the God of Armies, is his name."

  1. שמעו הדבר הזה פרות הבשן אשר בהר שמרון העשקות דלים הרצצות אביונים האמרת לאדניהם הביאה ונשתה׃
  2. נשבע אדני יהוה בקדשו כי הנה ימים באים עליכם ונשא אתכם בצנות ואחריתכן בסירות דוגה׃
  3. ופרצים תצאנה אשה נגדה והשלכתנה ההרמונה נאם־יהוה׃
  4. באו בית־אל ופשעו הגלגל הרבו לפשע והביאו לבקר זבחיכם לשלשת ימים מעשרתיכם׃
  5. וקטר מחמץ תודה וקראו נדבות השמיעו כי כן אהבתם בני ישראל נאם אדני יהוה׃
  6. וגם־אני נתתי לכם נקיון שנים בכל־עריכם וחסר לחם בכל מקומתיכם ולא־שבתם עדי נאם־יהוה׃
  7. וגם אנכי מנעתי םכם את־הגשם בעוד שלשה חדשים לקציר והמטרתי על־עיר אחת ועל־עיר אחת לא אמטיר חלקה אחת תמטר וחלקה אשר־לא־תמטיר עליה תיבש׃
  8. ונעו שתים שלש ערים אל־עיר אחת לשתות מים ולא ישבעו ולא־שבתם עדי נאם־יהוה׃
  9. הכיתי אתכם בשדפון ובירקון הרבות גנותיכם וכרמיכם ותאניכם וזיתיכם יאכל הגזם ולא־שבתם עדי נאם־יהוה׃ ס
  10. שלחתי בכם דבר בדרך מצרים הרגתי בחרב בחוריכם עם שבי סוסיכם ואעלה באש מחניכם ובאפכם ולא־שבתם עדי נאם־יהוה׃
  11. הפכתי בכם כמהפכת אלהים את־סדם ואת־עמרה ותהיו כאוד מצל משרפה ולא־שבתם עדי נאם־יהוה׃ ס
  12. לכן כה אעשה־לך ישראל עקב כי־זאת אעשה־לך הכון לקראת־אלהיך ישראל׃
  13. כי הנה יוצר הרים וברא רוח ומגיד לאדם מה־שחו עשה שחר עיפה ודרך על־במתי ארץ יהוה אלהי־צבאות שמו׃ ס

  1. ακουσατε τον λογον τουτον δαμαλεις της βασανιτιδος αι εν τω ορει της σαμαρειας αι καταδυναστευουσαι πτωχους και καταπατουσαι πενητας αι λεγουσαι τοις κυριοις αυτων επιδοτε ημιν οπως
  2. ομνυει κυριος κατα των αγιων αυτου διοτι ιδου ημεραι ερχονται εφ' υμας και λημψονται υμας εν οπλοις και τους μεθ' υμων εις λεβητας υποκαιομενους εμβαλουσιν εμπυροι
  3. και εξενεχθησεσθε γυμναι κατεναντι αλληλων και απορριφησεσθε εις το ορος το ρεμμαν λεγει κυριος ο
  4. εισηλθατε εις βαιθηλ και ηνομησατε και εις γαλγαλα επληθυνατε του ασεβησαι και ηνεγκατε εις το πρωι θυσιας υμων εις την τριημεριαν τα επιδεκατα
  5. και ανεγνωσαν εξω νομον και επεκαλεσαντο ομολογιας απαγγειλατε οτι ταυτα ηγαπησαν οι υιοι ισραηλ λεγει κυριος ο
  6. και εγω δωσω υμιν γομφιασμον οδοντων εν πασαις ταις πολεσιν υμων και ενδειαν αρτων εν πασι τοις τοποις υμων και ουκ επεστρεψατε προς με λεγει
  7. και εγω ανεσχον εξ υμων τον υετον προ τριων μηνων του τρυγητου και βρεξω επι πολιν μιαν επι δε πολιν μιαν ου βρεξω μερις μια βραχησεται και μερις εφ' ην ου βρεξω επ' αυτην
  8. και συναθροισθησονται δυο και τρεις πολεις εις πολιν μιαν του πιειν υδωρ και ου μη εμπλησθωσιν και ουκ επεστρεψατε προς με λεγει
  9. επαταξα υμας εν πυρωσει και εν ικτερω επληθυνατε κηπους υμων αμπελωνας υμων και συκωνας υμων και ελαιωνας υμων κατεφαγεν η καμπη και ουδ' ως επεστρεψατε προς με λεγει
  10. εξαπεστειλα εις υμας θανατον εν οδω αιγυπτου και απεκτεινα εν ρομφαια τους νεανισκους υμων μετα αιχμαλωσιας ιππων σου και ανηγαγον εν πυρι τας παρεμβολας υμων εν τη οργη μου και ουδ' ως επεστρεψατε προς με λεγει

  1. Audite verbum hoc, vaccæ pingues, quæ estis in monte Samariæ, quæ calumniam facitis egenis et confringitis pauperes ; quæ dicitis dominis vestris : Afferte, et bibemus.
  2. Juravit Dominus Deus in sancto suo, quia ecce dies venient super vos, et levabunt vos in contis, et reliquias vestras in ollis ferventibus.
  3. Et per aperturas exibitis altera contra alteram, et projiciemini in Armon, dicit Dominus.
  4. Venite ad Bethel, et impie agite ; ad Galgalam, et multiplicate prævaricationem : et afferte mane victimas vestras, tribus diebus decimas vestras.
  5. Et sacrificate de fermentato laudem, et vocate voluntarias oblationes, et annuntiate ; sic enim voluistis, filii Israël, dicit Dominus Deus.
  6. Unde et ego dedi vobis stuporem dentium in cunctis urbibus vestris, et indigentiam panum in omnibus locis vestris ; et non estis reversi ad me, dicit Dominus.
  7. Ego quoque prohibui a vobis imbrem, cum adhuc tres menses superessent usque ad messem : et plui super unam civitatem, et super alteram civitatem non plui ; pars una compluta est, et pars super quam non plui, aruit.
  8. Et venerunt duæ et tres civitates ad unam civitatem ut biberent aquam, et non sunt satiatæ ; et non redistis ad me, dicit Dominus.
  9. Percussi vos in vento urente, et in aurugine : multitudinem hortorum vestrorum et vinearum vestrarum, oliveta vestra et ficeta vestra comedit eruca : et non redistis ad me, dicit Dominus.
  10. Misi in vos mortem in via Ægypti ; percussi in gladio juvenes vestros, usque ad captivitatem equorum vestrorum, et ascendere feci putredinem castrorum vestrorum in nares vestras : et non redistis ad me, dicit Dominus.

  1. Hear this word, ye kine of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, which oppress the poor, which crush the needy, which say to their masters, Bring, and let us drink.
  2. The Lord GOD hath sworn by his holiness, that, lo, the days shall come upon you, that he will take you away with hooks, and your posterity with fishhooks.
  3. And ye shall go out at the breaches, every cow at that which is before her; and ye shall cast them into the palace, saith the LORD.
  4. Come to Bethel, and transgress; at Gilgal multiply transgression; and bring your sacrifices every morning, and your tithes after three years:
  5. And offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven, and proclaim and publish the free offerings: for this liketh you, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
  6. And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.
  7. And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
