1 Corinthians 11 Text (WEB) Be imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ. Now I praise you, brothers, that you remember me in all things, and hold firm the traditions, even as I delivered them to you. But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is the man, and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonors his head. But every woman praying or prophesying with her head unveiled dishonors her head. For it is one and the same thing as if she were shaved. For if a woman is not covered, let her also be shorn. But if it is shameful for a woman to be shorn or shaved, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to have his head covered, because he is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man. For man is not from woman, but woman from man; for neither was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. For this cause the woman ought to have authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, neither is the woman independent of the man, nor the man independent of the woman, in the Lord. For as woman came from man, so a man also comes through a woman; but all things are from God. Judge for yourselves. Is it appropriate that a woman pray to God unveiled? Doesn't even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him? But if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her, for her hair is given to her for a covering. But if any man seems to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither do God's assemblies. But in giving you this command, I don't praise you, that you come together not for the better but for the worse. For first of all, when you come together in the assembly, I hear that divisions exist among you, and I partly believe it. For there also must be factions among you, that those who are approved may be revealed among you. When therefore you assemble yourselves together, it is not the Lord's supper that you eat. For in your eating each one takes his own supper first. One is hungry, and another is drunken. What, don't you have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise God's assembly, and put them to shame who don't have? What shall I tell you? Shall I praise you? In this I don't praise you. For I received from the Lord that which also I delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night in which he was betrayed took bread. When he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "Take, eat. This is my body, which is broken for you. Do this in memory of me." In the same way he also took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink, in memory of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks the Lord's cup in a way unworthy of the Lord will be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread, and drink of the cup. For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy way eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he doesn't discern the Lord's body. For this cause many among you are weak and sickly, and not a few sleep. For if we discerned ourselves, we wouldn't be judged. But when we are judged, we are punished by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world. Therefore, my brothers, when you come together to eat, wait for one another. But if anyone is hungry, let him eat at home, lest your coming together be for judgment. The rest I will set in order whenever I come.
1 Corinthians 11 Text (Hebrew) לכו בעקבותי כאשר גם אני הלך בעקבות המשיח׃ ועל זאת אני משבח אתכם אחי כי זכרתם אתי בכל לשמר את הקבלות כאשר מסרתי לכם׃ אך חפץ אנכי שתדעו כי ראש כל איש המשיח וראש האשה האיש וראש המשיח הוא האלהים׃ כל איש אשר יתפלל או יתנבא וראשו מכסה מבזה הוא את ראשו׃ וכל אשה אשר תתפלל או תתנבא וראשה פרוע מבזה היא את ראשה יען בזה היא כמו מגלחה׃ כי האשה אם לא תתכסה גם תתגלח ואם בזיון הוא לאשה להכסם או להתגלח תתכסה׃ והאיש איננו חיב לכסות את ראשו כי הוא צלם אלהים וכבודו אבל האשה היא כבוד האיש׃ כי אין האיש מן האשה כי אם האשה מן האיש׃ גם לא נברא האיש בעבור האשה כי אם האשה בעבור האיש׃ על כן האשה חיבת להיות לה כפה על ראשה בעבור המלאכים׃ אבל אין האיש בלא אשה ואין האשה בלא איש באדון׃ כי כאשר האשה מן האיש כן גם האיש על ידי האשה וכל זאת מאלהים׃ שפטו נא בנפשכם הנאוה לאשה להתפלל אל האלהים בגלוי ראש׃ או הלא גם הטבע בעצמו ילמד אתכם כי איש אשר יגדל פרע שער ראשו חרפה היא לו׃ אבל האשה כי תגדל שערה פאר הוא לה כי נתן לה השער לצניף׃ ואם יחשב איש לערער עלינו אין לנו מנהג כזה ולא לקהלות האלהים׃ והנה בצותי את זאת לא אוכל לשבח אתכם על אשר תקהלו יחד לא להועיל כי אם לרעה׃ כי בראשונה שמעתי שיש מחלקות ביניכם כאשר תועדו בקהל ומקצתו אני מאמין׃ כי אף צריכות כתות להיות ביניכם למען יודעו הנאמנים בכם׃ ועתה כאשר תקהלו יחד אין זה לאכל סעודת האדון׃ כי כל אחד מקדים לקחת סעודתו בעת האכילה וזה ירעב וזה ישתכר׃ האין לכם בתים לאכל ולשתות בהם או התבוזו את קהל אלהים ותכלימו את אשר אין בידם מאומה מה אמר לכם העל זאת אשבח אתכם אינני משבח׃ כי כה קבלתי אנכי מן האדון את אשר גם מסרתי לכם כי האדון ישוע בלילה ההוא אשר נמסר בו לקח את הלחם׃ ויברך ויבצע ויאמר קחו אכלו זה גופי הנבצע בעדכם עשו זאת לזכרוני׃ וכן גם את הכוס אחר הסעודה ויאמר הכוס הזאת היא הברית החדשה בדמי עשו זאת לזכרוני בכל עת שתשתו׃ כי בכל עת שתאכלו את הלחם הזה ותשתו את הכוס הזאת הזכר תזכירו את מות אדנינו עד כי יבוא׃ לכן מי שיאכל מן הלחם הזה או ישתה מכוס האדון שלא כראוי יאשם לגוף אדנינו ולדמו׃ יבחן האיש את נפשו ואז יאכל מן הלחם וישתה מן הכוס׃ כי האכל והשתה שלא כראוי אכל ושתה דין לנפשו יען אשר לא הפלה את גוף האדון׃ בעבור זאת יש בכם חולים וחלשים רבים והרבה ישנו המות׃ כי אם נבחן את נפשנו לא נהיה נדונים׃ וכאשר נדון נוסר על יד האדון למען לא נחיב עם העולם׃ על כן אחי בהקהלכם יחד לאכל תחכו איש אל רעהו׃ וכי ירעב איש יאכל בביתו פן תקהלו לאשמה ויתר הדברים אתקן בבאי׃
1 Corinthians 11 Text (Greek) μιμηται μου γινεσθε καθως καγω χριστου επαινω δε υμας οτι παντα μου μεμνησθε και καθως παρεδωκα υμιν τας παραδοσεις κατεχετε θελω δε υμας ειδεναι οτι παντος ανδρος η κεφαλη ο χριστος εστιν κεφαλη δε γυναικος ο ανηρ κεφαλη δε του χριστου ο θεος πας ανηρ προσευχομενος η προφητευων κατα κεφαλης εχων καταισχυνει την κεφαλην αυτου πασα δε γυνη προσευχομενη η προφητευουσα ακατακαλυπτω τη κεφαλη καταισχυνει την κεφαλην αυτης εν γαρ εστιν και το αυτο τη εξυρημενη ει γαρ ου κατακαλυπτεται γυνη και κειρασθω ει δε αισχρον γυναικι το κειρασθαι η ξυρασθαι κατακαλυπτεσθω ανηρ μεν γαρ ουκ οφειλει κατακαλυπτεσθαι την κεφαλην εικων και δοξα θεου υπαρχων η γυνη δε δοξα ανδρος εστιν ου γαρ εστιν ανηρ εκ γυναικος αλλα γυνη εξ ανδρος και γαρ ουκ εκτισθη ανηρ δια την γυναικα αλλα γυνη δια τον ανδρα δια τουτο οφειλει η γυνη εξουσιαν εχειν επι της κεφαλης δια τους αγγελους πλην ουτε γυνη χωρις ανδρος ουτε ανηρ χωρις γυναικος εν κυριω ωσπερ γαρ η γυνη εκ του ανδρος ουτως και ο ανηρ δια της γυναικος τα δε παντα εκ του θεου εν υμιν αυτοις κρινατε πρεπον εστιν γυναικα ακατακαλυπτον τω θεω προσευχεσθαι ουδε η φυσις αυτη διδασκει υμας οτι ανηρ μεν εαν κομα ατιμια αυτω εστιν γυνη δε εαν κομα δοξα αυτη εστιν οτι η κομη αντι περιβολαιου δεδοται [[Greek:{VAR2:|{VAR2:]] ει δε τις δοκει φιλονεικος ειναι ημεις τοιαυτην συνηθειαν ουκ εχομεν ουδε αι εκκλησιαι του θεου τουτο δε παραγγελλων ουκ επαινω οτι ουκ εις το κρεισσον αλλα εις το ησσον συνερχεσθε πρωτον μεν γαρ συνερχομενων υμων εν εκκλησια ακουω σχισματα εν υμιν υπαρχειν και μερος τι πιστευω δει γαρ και αιρεσεις εν υμιν ειναι ινα οι δοκιμοι φανεροι γενωνται εν υμιν συνερχομενων ουν υμων επι το αυτο ουκ εστιν κυριακον δειπνον φαγειν εκαστος γαρ το ιδιον δειπνον προλαμβανει εν τω φαγειν και ος μεν πεινα ος δε μεθυει μη γαρ οικιας ουκ εχετε εις το εσθιειν και πινειν η της εκκλησιας του θεου καταφρονειτε και καταισχυνετε τους μη εχοντας τι ειπω υμιν επαινεσω υμας εν τουτω ουκ επαινω εγω γαρ παρελαβον απο του κυριου ο και παρεδωκα υμιν οτι ο κυριος ιησους εν τη νυκτι η παρεδιδετο ελαβεν αρτον και ευχαριστησας εκλασεν και ειπεν τουτο μου εστιν το σωμα το υπερ υμων τουτο ποιειτε εις την εμην αναμνησιν ωσαυτως και το ποτηριον μετα το δειπνησαι λεγων τουτο το ποτηριον η καινη διαθηκη εστιν εν τω εμω αιματι τουτο ποιειτε οσακις εαν πινητε εις την εμην αναμνησιν οσακις γαρ εαν εσθιητε τον αρτον τουτον και το ποτηριον πινητε τον θανατον του κυριου καταγγελλετε αχρις ου ελθη ωστε ος αν εσθιη τον αρτον η πινη το ποτηριον του κυριου αναξιως ενοχος εσται του σωματος και του αιματος του κυριου δοκιμαζετω δε ανθρωπος εαυτον και ουτως εκ του αρτου εσθιετω και εκ του ποτηριου πινετω ο γαρ εσθιων και πινων κριμα εαυτω εσθιει και πινει μη διακρινων το σωμα δια τουτο εν υμιν πολλοι ασθενεις και αρρωστοι και κοιμωνται ικανοι ει δε εαυτους διεκρινομεν ουκ αν εκρινομεθα κρινομενοι δε υπο κυριου παιδευομεθα ινα μη συν τω κοσμω κατακριθωμεν ωστε αδελφοι μου συνερχομενοι εις το φαγειν αλληλους εκδεχεσθε ει τις πεινα εν οικω εσθιετω ινα μη εις κριμα συνερχησθε τα δε λοιπα ως αν ελθω διαταξομαι
1 Corinthians 11 Text (Latin) Imitatores mei estote, sicut et ego Christi. Laudo autem vos fratres quod per omnia mei memores estis : et sicut tradidi vobis, præcepta mea tenetis. Volo autem vos scire quod omnis viri caput, Christus est : caput autem mulieris, vir : caput vero Christi, Deus. Omnis vir orans, aut prophetans velato capite, deturpat caput suum. Omnis autem mulier orans, aut prophetans non velato capite, deturpat caput suum : unum enim est ac si decalvetur. Nam si non velatur mulier, tondeatur. Si vero turpe est mulieri tonderi, aut decalvari, velet caput suum. Vir quidem non debet velare caput suum : quoniam imago et gloria Dei est, mulier autem gloria viri est. Non enim vir ex muliere est, sed mulier ex viro. Etenim non est creatus vir propter mulierem, sed mulier propter virum. Ideo debet mulier potestatem habere supra caput propter angelos. Verumtamen neque vir sine muliere : neque mulier sine viro in Domino. Nam sicut mulier de viro, ita et vir per mulierem : omnia autem ex Deo. Vos ipsi judicate : decet mulierem non velatam orare Deum ? Nec ipsa natura docet vos, quod vir quidem si comam nutriat, ignominia est illi : mulier vero si comam nutriat, gloria est illi : quoniam capilli pro velamine ei dati sunt. Si quis autem videtur contentiosus esse : nos talem consuetudinem non habemus, neque ecclesia Dei. Hoc autem præcipio : non laudans quod non in melius, sed in deterius convenitis. Primum quidem convenientibus vobis in ecclesiam, audio scissuras esse inter vos, et ex parte credo. Nam oportet et hæreses esse, ut et qui probati sunt, manifesti fiant in vobis. Convenientibus ergo vobis in unum, jam non est Dominicam cœnam manducare. Unusquisque enim suam cœnam præsumit ad manducandum, et alius quidem esurit, alius autem ebrius est. Numquid domos non habetis ad manducandum, et bibendum ? aut ecclesiam Dei contemnitis, et confunditis eos qui non habent ? Quid dicam vobis ? laudo vos ? in hoc non laudo. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another. And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
